Songs Have Souls 2026
"Songs Have Souls" is a Lenten singer-songwriter series which benefits Special Session at Camp Bratton Green. The series includes 4 nights of performances from various artists and a meal provided by Strawberry Cafe. Special Session is an Episcopal summer camp ministry which has offered fun and respite to our special needs community for over 50 years.
Shows begin at 6pm. $15 suggested donation at the door.

Caroline Herring is an American singer/songwriter who inspires audiences through her songs about injustice, hope and perseverance. Herring started her career in Austin TX when she won Best New Artist at the SXSW Austin Music Awards. Since that time, she has recorded eight albums and has toured throughout the United States and Europe for almost 20 years.

Herring has appeared on NPR’s Weekend Edition, BBC 4’s Front Row and A Prairie Home Companion. Her albums have won numerous awards, including: Songlines Top 10 International Albums of the Year (Camilla 2013, Cecil Sharp Project 2012); Boston Globe Top 10 Albums of the Year (Golden Apples of the Sun 2009); National Public Radio Top 10 Folk Albums of the Year (Lantana 2008); Texas Music Magazine 50 Classic Texas Albums (Twilight 2001 – awarded in 2012); MS Institute of Arts and Letters Best Popular Music Recording (Camilla and Golden Apples of the Sun).
Caroline’s song Mistress (Wellspring 2003) is on the Texas Music Magazine Best Texas Songs of All Time list (awarded 2012), as well as the Atlanta Journal Constitution 100 Best Songs about the South.

Keith Johnson is an accomplished blues guitarist, harmonica player, and songwriter. He has amassed a songwriting catalog, with multiple songs released on his debut album, “Come to Mississippi.” Keith is in the process of carrying on and upholding a family legacy in the entertainment industry as he is the great-nephew of blues icon Muddy Waters. He is also the grandson of the late Texcellar Fields, a gospel singer and radio host. He was born in Glen Allen, Mississippi, a small town in the heartland of the Mississippi Delta. Keith graduated from Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Audio Engineering and a Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Management.

In 2023, Keith returned to Europe with the Big Muddy Band and performed original songs for Hulu “Searching for Soul Food” Episode 1. He was also featured in a YouTube series presented by Huckberry titled “Ramble On.” Keith published his first book titled Freeman: Opening the Case. In 2024, Keith released a new single titled “Nephew Muddy” paying homage to his great uncle Muddy Waters and published his second book titled Come to Mississippi: The Birthplace of the Blues.

Keith continues to grow as a professional entertainer and musician, showcasing his talent and honoring his family musical heritage.

Ruth Pooley is a singer and songwriter out of Jackson, Mississippi who has been playing music since she was a young child. Her original songs span a variety of genres combining elements of blues rock and southern soul.
Ruth has released on all platforms a six track EP sampling a variety of styles, and is currently recording her first full length album to be released in early 2024.

Lloyd was born and raised in Mendenhall, Mississippi. He learned to play the guitar and harmonica from his older brothers who had a touring band called Th' Rugby's while he was still in high school. While at home, they would teach him new licks to practice before heading out again. Lloyd took it from there and soon was able to sit in with the band and take part in those famous Munn family music jams.
Over the past several years Lloyd has played over 600 different venues and has had the privilege of playing with some of the best musicians in the area. He frequently played the famous “Subway Lounge” in Jackson, Mississippi with the King Edward Band in its last years in existence.
You can find Lloyd playing throughout the Southeast. He routinely plays harmonica with The Juvenators, Casey Phillips and the Hounds, Joe and Dustin Messina, Sherman Lee Dillon, The Kool Filter Kings, Jessie Robinson, The Music Box, Rhythm and Rain, Island of Rhythm, The Big Juv Trio and The All Munn Brothers Band, to name a few. He also played at Disney EPCOT with the “ABITA BLUES BAND”.
