In 2004, a group of faithful members planned the first St. Columb’s “Drawdown to Buildup.”  The mission of the event was to raise money to pay down debt on Phase 1 of a parish master plan.  Phase 1, constructed in 1998, includes the parish hall, office suite, and     educational wing.  Early in the planning of the first Drawdown it was decided that 20% of the net profit should go toward ministry outside the parish. Once the parish paid down the debt on Phase 1, the goal became moving on to Phase 2, which included a new worship space.

Through the generosity of sponsors and attendees, the first event was a huge success.  In 2005, the first phase of our master plan was paid off. New worship space has now been completed, and St. Columb’s   continues to thrive.  Drawdown to Buildup, now know simply as Drawdown, has continued to be a huge event. Beyond monetary benefits, the event has been successful in creating a great avenue for fellowship and evangelism, bringing attendees from all over central Mississippi and beyond.

As we prepare for our 15th annual Drawdown, we no longer look to the event solely to support capital improvement.  Rather, sums generated by the Drawdown assist St. Columb’s in providing for and participating in internal and external outreach ministries in Jackson and beyond.  Beneficiaries of our Drawdown proceeds have included Habitat for Humanity, IONA House, Darkness into Day (Hurricane Katrina relief fund), and Stewpot of Jackson. Simply stated, either through direct monetary donation, creating facilities, or simply enabling participation by members, Drawdown plays a significant role in St. Columb’s many and varied ministries.
